How did you begin reviewing for other journals and for JBJS in particular?

Early into my academic career, I appreciated the importance of the peer review process to the integrity of scientific advancement. Becoming involved as a reviewer has allowed me to stay up to date on current research topics of interest, educate myself, improve my own research skills, and be a small part of the scientific growth in orthopaedics. I began reviewing for journals, including JBJS, by reaching out to editors at the various journals.

What has been the highlight of your career (so far)?

Academic medicine is both rewarding and challenging. One of the highlights of my career thus far has been to share the knowledge and skills that my mentors shared with me, with my trainees. Being able to witness them progress through a process of graduated responsibility, become more knowledgeable, more skillful, and be able to execute a surgical task while providing the highest level of care for patients is one of the most rewarding feelings I have experienced.

Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?

My latest reads are Humor, Seriously by Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas, Surgery, the Ultimate Placebo by Ian Harris, and the classic: The Shoulder by E.A. Codman.
