Terence E. McIff, MBA, PhD

JBJS is pleased to welcome F. Alan Barber, Nicholas Giori, Terence E. McIff, Lauren Tatman, and Lee Zuckerman as new Associate Editors to the Editorial Board of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.

JBJS Associate Editors serve 3-year terms for the Journal and have a history of providing exemplary reviews. They are instrumental in adjudicating manuscripts with disparate reviews at virtual Editor Workshops and play a vital role in ensuring the quality of JBJS peer review.

This post concludes our series profiling the 2023-2026 JBJS Associate Editors.

Name

Terence E. McIff, MBA, PhD

Institution, City/State or Country

University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Kansas City, Kansas

How many years have you been in practice?

22 years in my current position at KUMC.

How and when did you first get involved with JBJS?

I first started reviewing for JBJS in 2005 by invitation.

What is your favorite tip or tool for maintaining a healthy work-life balance?

Wake up each day and, after a little run, stop and take a fresh look at the beautiful natural world around. While doing so, be grateful for the time you have now, the people you share the world with, and the unlimited possibilities that lie in the day ahead. Do this daily.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The development of implants and procedures that are actually used and making a difference in orthopaedic practice. The chance to work with residents and medical students as they learn to appreciate the hunt for new knowledge and the chance to contribute to the improvement of medicine.

Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?

Mostly historical records and documents like William Bradford’s Of Plymouth Plantation.
