Sokratis E. Varitimidis, MD

JBJS is pleased once again to highlight our Elite Reviewers. The Elite Reviewers Program recognizes our best reviewers for their outstanding efforts. All JBJS reviewers help us maintain the highest standards for quality orthopaedic publishing. The final profile of the season introduces Elite Reviewer Sokratis E. Varitimidis.

Name:

Sokratis E. Varitimidis, MD

Affiliation:

University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece

How did you begin reviewing for other journals and for JBJS in particular?

I was invited by the Journal.

What is your top piece of advice for reviewers who aspire to reach Elite status?

Try to be fair with the authors of the submitted manuscripts and fair to readers of the Journal. Only top papers should be accepted and published in JBJS.

How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

Unfortunately, I have put work above life. I am not in a position to provide such advice. To my residents, I always say, “work beyond your limits.”

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The love and friendship of my colleagues, especially those who do not need me anymore for their careers.

Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?

Greek, European, and World History.
