international consensus group

JBJS is pleased to announce that the “Recommendations of the International Consensus Group on Venous Thromboembolism After Orthopaedic Procedures” is now available as an online supplement to The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. Attendees of the 2022 AAOS Annual Meeting are invited to visit JBJS Booth #1021 to receive a free printed copy of this landmark document.

The supplement is also freely available at JBJS.org for a limited time.

Recognizing the limitations of current guidelines, the International Consensus Meeting (ICM) convened a group of experts from around the globe to perform a rigorous review of the literature related to VTE and to create practical recommendations related to all orthopaedic subspecialities. This immense effort engaged nearly 600 experts, including delegates from 135 international societies, 68 countries, and multiple medical specialties, who worked tirelessly on the initiative. With the critical guidance of the steering committee and involvement of the organizing committee, librarians, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and experts from the Cochrane group, all published work related to VTE and orthopaedics was reviewed to develop a response/recommendation to nearly 200 questions that had been collected from the field. Draft recommendations went through extensive review and comments, ultimately resulting in the document now available.

The ICM-VTE initiative was supported by an educational grant from Cardinal Health.
