Two awards are given: for the best JBJS Open Access scientific article and the best JBJS Open Access AOA Critical Issues in Education article published each calendar year.

Notes co-author Dr. Adam Watson, “Postgraduate training programs require valid tools to assess trainees’ competence. Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) provide a way to meaningfully assess readiness for independent practice. However, there are many possible EPAs in orthopaedic education, making determination of the most important challenging. This peer-reviewed, consensus-driven list is a starting point for orthopaedic educators to plan a post-graduate syllabus, using EPAs as an assessment tool.”
