Name:
Fred R.T. Nelson, MD, AAOS, AOA
Affiliation:
Henry Ford Health System
Years in practice: 49 for orthopaedics
How did you begin reviewing for other journals and for JBJS in particular?
My first review was 10 years ago for JBJS and about 13 years ago for all journals.
What has been the highlight of your career (so far)?
Starting in 2009 I initiated a weekly “Basic Science Tip of the Week” designed for our program. It expanded to thirty programs by 2016. Starting that year some were used by the Orthopaedic Research Society for their newsletter, ORS Connect. Also, 38 appeared in OrthoBuzz. With my permission the Orthopaedic Research Society took these over April 2021 and they are now distributed weekly to ORS Connect and 170 training programs.
Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?
Barack Obama’s A Promised Land
