JBJS is pleased once again to highlight our Elite Reviewers. The Elite Reviewers Program recognizes our best reviewers for their outstanding efforts. All JBJS reviewers help us maintain the highest standards for quality orthopaedic publishing. Today we introduce Elite Reviewer Joshua Pahys.
Name:
Joshua Pahys, MD
Affiliation:
Shriners Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Years in practice:
12
How did you begin reviewing for other journals and for JBJS in particular?
I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with a colleague who was also a JBJS reviewer at one of our study group meetings. I was eager to be involved and he was kind enough to recommend me to the JBJS Editorial staff.
What is your top piece of advice for reviewers who aspire to reach Elite status?
Make it a point to block out a chunk of time in your schedule as soon as you are notified of a manuscript review. The authors deserve your undivided attention as opposed to a hurried review in the eleventh hour on the due date.
How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?
I try to either exercise or do work that requires close attention early in the morning to avoid distractions, allowing for more undivided family time in the evenings.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I had the privilege of being a Scoliosis Research Society Traveling Fellow in 2017. I traveled to six spine centers in Europe with Drs. Rick McCarthy, Han Jo Kim, and Sam Cho. It was truly the trip of a lifetime.
Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?
Think Again by Adam Grant.
