Publishing high-quality evidence that drives surgical decision-making remains a key JBJS commitment. Building on this, several new article types will soon be introduced to the Journal and are now open for submissions.
Driving Impact, Together
“With the support of our Executive Team, our Editorial Board members, and our Board of Trustees, we are in the process of reimagining the Journal to best support the JBJS mission of improving musculoskeletal health across the globe,” writes Editor-in-Chief Dr. Mo Bhandari in a new editorial: Driving Impact, Together.
A New Perspectives Section, Expert Reviews, and More
A new Perspectives section will bring a wide range of voices to the orthopaedic conversation. Among article types in this section:
- Innovation: highlighting cutting-edge technologies and approaches
- World Report: offering news and recent developments from regions around the globe
- Viewpoint: sharing opinions and insights on critical health-care issues
- Patient Voices: presenting personal reflections on receiving care
- Arts & Humanities: sharing poetry, fiction, photography, and other art forms
- Correspondence: including letters from readers on published JBJS articles
In addition, new articles will be featured in a Reviews section in JBJS. These include:
- Expert Reviews: solicited authoritative reviews highlighting recent advances and emerging trends in a particular area of research
- Health Care Recommendations: presenting best practices, guidelines, and recommendations for specific orthopaedic issues, developed by a group of experts through a collaborative process of evidence review

Along with the addition of new article types, several preexisting article types have been recategorized and renamed. The Scientific Articles section now comprises Randomized Controlled Trials, Observational Studies, Survey Studies, and Basic Science Studies.
