At JBJS, 2025 marked a milestone year highlighted by the relaunch of The Journal, which introduced a new look, additional article types, and themed issues guided by expert editorial input. The relaunch supports the broader JBJS commitment to serving, and connecting, the global orthopaedic community—a commitment that extends across 6 journals, educational products and offerings, and social media and online platforms.
In this post, we share JBJS publication and engagement statistics from 2025. While these metrics provide only a snapshot of the hard work and dedication of numerous authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and other contributors, they highlight the strength of activity across several areas.
Of note, a total of 1,606 manuscripts were submitted to JBJS, with a noticeable increase in nonscientific JBJS submissions, aligning with the introduction of Viewpoint and other Perspective articles that promote discussion and the exchange of insights across the field.
In addition to JBJS manuscripts, more than 600 articles were published across the 5 partner journals, extending the reach of trusted JBJS scholarship. In particular, 2025 saw an increase in articles published in JBJS Open Access (OA). The recently introduced “Methods, Pilots, and Protocols” section will further expand JBJS OA offerings.
Engagement with JBJS digital platforms also continued to grow, with more than 1.7 million total page views on JBJS.org and more than 166,000 followers and subscribers combined across social media platforms. Growth was notably strong on YouTube, due in part to the posting of JBJS podcasts.
JBJS remains focused on publishing more of what you want to read, watch, and listen to, while continuing efforts to reduce turnaround times and enhance the overall author and reader experience.
