Augusto Sarmiento’s Take on “What’s Important”

OF_Sarmiento.pngThe November 2, 2016 issue of JBJS contains the secondĀ of a series of personal essays in which orthopaedic clinicians tell a story about a high-impact lesson they learned that has altered their worldview, enhanced them personally, and positively affected the care they provide as orthopaedic physicians.

The secondĀ ā€œWhat’s Importantā€ piece comes from Dr. AugustoĀ SarmientoĀ of the University of MiamiĀ School of Medicine. In his essay titled ā€œPutting Patients First,ā€ Dr. Sarmiento emphasizes that quality patient care must always outweighĀ orthopaedist self-interest.

If you would likeĀ JBJSĀ to consider your ā€œWhat’s Importantā€ story for publication, please submit a manuscript viaĀ Editorial Manager. When asked to select an article type, please choose Orthopaedic Forum and include ā€œWhat’s Important:ā€ at the beginning of the title.

Because they are personal in nature, ā€œWhat’s Importantā€ submissions will not be subject to the usual stringentĀ JBJSĀ peer-review process. Instead, they will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, who will correspond with the author if revisions are necessary and make the final decision regarding acceptance.
