The November 2, 2016 issue of JBJS contains the secondĀ of a series of personal essays in which orthopaedic clinicians tell a story about a high-impact lesson they learned that has altered their worldview, enhanced them personally, and positively affected the care they provide as orthopaedic physicians.
The secondĀ āWhatās Importantā piece comes from Dr. AugustoĀ SarmientoĀ of the University of MiamiĀ School of Medicine. In his essay titled āPutting Patients First,ā Dr. Sarmiento emphasizes that quality patient care must always outweighĀ orthopaedist self-interest.
If you would likeĀ JBJSĀ to consider your āWhatās Importantā story for publication, please submit a manuscript viaĀ Editorial Manager. When asked to select an article type, please choose Orthopaedic Forum and include āWhatās Important:ā at the beginning of the title.
Because they are personal in nature, āWhatās Importantā submissions will not be subject to the usual stringentĀ JBJSĀ peer-review process. Instead, they will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, who will correspond with the author if revisions are necessary and make the final decision regarding acceptance.
