This week marks Peer Review Week, an annual event to celebrate the value of peer review by those in scholarly communications.
As readers know, JBJS has long been committed to excellence in peer review. This commitment translates to published content that the orthopaedic community seeks out—and trusts—in the delivery of musculoskeletal care to patients around the world.
Research Integrity
The theme of this year’s Peer Review Week is Research Integrity.
At JBJS, hundreds of peer reviewers are enlisted to review the content and methodology of submitted papers. A rigorous double-blinded review model ensures that JBJS manuscripts are of the highest quality.
Content review is conducted by Consultant Reviewers, Guest Reviewers, and members of the Board of Associate Editors as well as methodological reviewers (Deputy Editors for Methodology and Biostatistics, or Consultant Reviewers for Methodology).
JBJS thanks each and every reviewer for the vital service they provide.
JBJS Reviewer Programs
The JBJS Elite Reviewers program was established to recognize JBJS reviewers who consistently provide stellar effort in support of the orthopaedic community. OrthoBuzz is pleased to have spotlighted several of these individuals in our recent Elite Reviewer profiles.
In addition, a new Editorial Appreciation Program has been established to recognize “high-volume” reviewers and editors for their prolific contributions to JBJS. Formal congratulations will be sent to these individuals, who are also eligible to receive a specially issued pin marking their milestone number of reviews (≥100 or ≥200 lifetime reviews).
Reviewer Resources
JBJS also strives to provide helpful resources for reviewers looking to improve their craft. A Reviewer Resource Center is available for each JBJS journal, where an overview of the peer-review process, reviewer guidelines, tips, and advice can be found.
