Introducing JBJS Associate Editor F. Alan Barber, MD, FACS

JBJS is pleased to welcome F. Alan Barber, Nicholas Giori, Terence E. McIff, Lauren Tatman, and Lee Zuckerman as new Associate Editors to the Editorial Board of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.  

JBJS Associate Editors serve 3-year terms for the Journal and have a history of providing exemplary reviews. They are instrumental in adjudicating manuscripts with disparate reviews at virtual Editor Workshops and play a vital role in ensuring the quality of JBJS peer review.  

This post marks the first of a new month-long series profiling the 2023-2026 JBJS Associate Editors.

How many years have you been in practice?

How and when did you first get involved with JBJS?

I published an article in the Journal in 1987.

What is your favorite tip or tool for maintaining a healthy work/life balance?

I exercise regularly, especially with my wife.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The white coat ceremony and the hooding ceremony for my son’s start and conclusion of medical school.

Aside from orthopaedic manuscripts, what have you been reading lately?

The Cabinet of Dr. Leng by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and Murder Book by Thomas Perry.
